MAINTENANCE AND CARE FOR
STONE PRODUCTS
Customers often ask, "How do I care for my granite countertops?"
As granite is a low maintenance material, scratching and staining
on granite surfaces is rare because of the hardness of the
material.
Most granite surfaces can be easily cleaned using a soapy
washcloth and hot water. Window cleaner, or a mixture of white
vinegar and water, (1:2) bring out the shine and luster of
the stone.
A razor-blade slanted at a slight angle can be used to remove
stubborn sticky materials like glue or hardened cocktail mix.
Residue can be removed using a "000" (or finer) steel wool.
Please note: using "Scotch-Brite" (3M product)
and/or cleansers is definitely not recommended.
Maintenance
A maintenance and care handout should be left at
each finished project. Maintenance is very minimal. Every
day cleaning can be done with hot soapy water and a dish-cloth,
or window cleaner and paper towels. Use of abrasive cleaners
is not recommended. As a general rule, we recommend natural
countertops should be sealed once per year with a silicone
impregnator that can be purchased at most hardware stores.
Solid surface countertops
can never duplicate the natural essence of granite. Many stain
and scratch easily as they are made of plastic. Solid surface
countertops are often priced in the same range as granite.
Laminate countertops
are popular because they tend to be the least expensive. While
more durable than solid surface (plastic) tops, they do not
capture the beauty or provide the durability of granite.
Granite provides the natural choice for lasting, premium
quality countertops. For more information about granite countertops,

Natural Surfaces—Which One
Is Right For You?
Demand for natural countertops has increased significantly.
Granite, marble, slate, and limestone offer unique beauty
provided only by nature. Each comes with its own set of qualities.
